Springboard Trust brings together leaders from across Aotearoa to strengthen leadership so our tamariki thrive. Strong leaders make strong schools, and strong nations.
We are proud to share a recording of our Leading with Optimism webinar below featuring Barbara Ala’alatoa and Ian Narev. These two amazing leaders share their experiences and what they have learned about the importance of leading with optimism. We would like to acknowledge Education Partnership & Innovation Trust and Hugh Green Foundation for their support to make this event possible
“We need to be idealistic about leadership in education. It is the one profession that calls on us to unleash the inner wonderful potential that every single kid turns up with. When we stand shoulder to shoulder to do this, then we get to change the world.” Barbara Ala’alatoa
The essence of leading with optimism:
- Self-awareness – start by knowing yourself as a leader and a person. Ian emphasised the value of 360 degree feedback – follow the link to learn more about Springboard Coaching for Leadership, our 360 survey and coaching support designed for Aotearoa school leaders.
- You have got to believe in what you are doing, in the impact you are having and the good you are doing.
- You have to look after yourself – one of the perils of leadership is no one is looking after you, so you must look after yourself.
- Finding the path and the inspiration, and communicating it to people.
- Develop people – find the richness in your team and draw on their strengths and expertise.
